With some trepidation ... I’d recently stopped working in a very demanding job where I felt I had little time for regular hobbies but now I was ready for fresh challenges. A friend of mine, a member of Loughton SAC had enthused about the wonders of the underwater world. Having always loved the sea and curious about what lay beneath I decided to at least try. So it was that I went along with some trepidation to The Furzefield Centre in Potters Bar with my friend Eileen in November 2007 for a try dive with a view to beginning to become a diver. I struggled my way through the first evening in tee shirt and ill-fitting BCD (Buoyancy Control Device to the uninitiated) - it took some time to find one that fitted. I still felt unsure about whether I could become a diver and had a second go the following week. |

A merry bunch of us set off aboard aboard MV Sidewinder off Swanage on 27 July 2008, a glorious day. Morning dive on the Kyarra, and afternoon dive on the Betsy Anna. At 12:00 the Red Arrows arrived in a clear blue sky over an absolutely packed Swanage Bay.
It was amusing to see just which advanced divers might possibly have missed thier optional safety stop on the way up so they could surface by 12:00 to watch the Red Arrows while bobbing around on the surface; but the ones you need to feel sorry for were those who surfaced just as the Red Arrows flew off.
The stunning Red Arrows pic over Swanage Bay (on the right) is by Peter Milford, taken on 27 July, and copied from 'talkphotography.com'.
The Red Arrows return to Swanage on Sat 24 July 2009 .. see http://www.swanagecarnival.com/
